| GM Recalls Equinox, Terrain VehiclesBy Mike Holter
![]() (LEGAFI) -- General Motors has issued a recall of 33,964 Chevrolet Equinox and GM Terrain SUVs from the 2012 model year because the tire pressure monitoring system isn’t up to federal standards, and poses a safety hazard. The GM recall affects 2012 Equinoxes and Terrains built from July 18 through September 6. You can determine if your vehicle falls within this time period by checking the sticker attached to the driver-side door jamb. GM issued the Equinox and Terrain recall because the tire pressure warning light won’t illuminate until the tire pressure is more than 25% below the recommended cold tire pressure. The tire monitoring system is designed to illuminate the tire pressure warning light when the pressure in a tire is 25% below the recommended cold tire pressure. An underinflated tire can cause tire overloading and overheating, which can lead to a blowout and possible crash. It also leads to prematurely worn tires, causing poor handling and decreased fuel economy. The GM Equinox and Terrain recall is expected to begin this month. Owners can take their recalled SUVs to their local GM dealer to have the body control module updated free of charge. More information about the Chevrolet Equinox and GM Terrain recall can be obtained by calling Chevrolet at (800) 630-2438 and GMC at (866) 996-9463.
