| Omnicare Hit with Second Whistleblower LawsuitBy Matt O'Donnell
(LEGAFI) -- Omnicare, Inc. has been hit with a whistleblower lawsuit filed by a former company pharmacist who claims the Illinois-based company overcharged the state and federal governments millions of dollars for drugs it supplied to nursing homes. The whistleblower, Peter Ordeanu, alleges in the Omnicare whistleblower lawsuit that he and others at the company were required to enter false billing information that caused the state and federal governments to pay for medications that were more costly than those actually being dispensed. Ordeanu claims Omnicare “regularly overcharged the government” by encouraging pharmacists to enter incorrect National Drug Codes, the product identifiers assigned by the FDA to all commercially distributed pharmaceuticals. This may have led to millions of dollars in damages, according to the lawsuit. Ordeanu further claims in the Omnicare whistleblower lawsuit that he was unlawfully terminated in January 2011 in violation of age discrimination laws. Ordeanu alleges he was fired in retaliations for disclosing Omnicare’s illegal activities to his supervisors, managers and director’s. Omnicare is the target of another whistleblower lawsuit, disclosed in August 2010, that alleges the company filed reimbursement claims for ancillary services that didn’t conform with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations.
